Porcelanosa Awards Rare Materials Applications

ARQCION Studio took home first place in Porcelanosa’s Projects of the Future category the for In-Out Nature concept.

Fine Arts Circle

, one of the city’s landmark buildings. Winners were awarded in several categories celebrating completed projects as well as forward-looking projects that foster a creative approach to architecture and interior design using the company’s vast range of materials. In the “Projects for the Future” category, Marina Esteban and Javier Merlo of

ARQCION Studio

took home first place for In-Out Nature, a faceted pavilion with an enclosed upper floor that would use Porcelanosa’s L’Antic Colonial wood and glass. This space would contrast with a ground floor, designed as an open space combining Urbatek coverings and wood. Krion, unveiled in the U.S. this month at NeoCon, would be used to fabricate furniture and a concealed Krion Extreme Light system would provide ambient lighting.

First prize in the “Completed Projects” category went to a single-family home in Burgos, Spain, designed by Carlos Pereda and Óscar Pérez of

Pereda Pérez Arquitectos

. Built on a small site, the home’s architecture relies on moving walls to provide privacy, when desired. Hard surfaces flow seamlessly from the landscaped surroundings into interior living space, maximizing the home’s connection to the outdoors.
