In response to a growing client base, Chicago-based firm

Studio Gang Architects

has opened an office in New York. Located at 77 Water Street in Lower Manhattan, the new location will be headed up by design principal Weston Walker and will include a staff of about a half-dozen employees.

The omnipresent Studio Gang has been a key player in the New York design community for years, and employees have been commuting to the city from Chicago to work on a multitude of projects, including the Solar Carve Tower, a mixed-use building along the High Line set to be completed in 2016, and the Fire Rescue 2 facility for the NYC Department of Design and Construction.

“Studio Gang has a growing portfolio of work in New York,” says Jeanne Gang, founder and principal of the firm. “Our expansion will continue this trajectory of growth and enhance collaborations with current and future clients, consultants, and the amazing network of architectural and cultural resources within the city.”

Jeanne Gang founded the firm in 1997 and it has since received a multitude of honors, including the 2013 National Design Award. Its designs have been exhibited at the International Venice Biennale, MoMA, the National Building Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago.

“A permanent office offers us even more flexibility and availability on the East Coast,” says Margaret Cavenagh, interiors director for the firm. “We collaborate with and admire many firms in New York and are pleased that our closer proximity will strengthen these bonds.”
