Tandus Centiva and Suzanne Tick Support Publicolor
Flooring specialists
Tandus Centiva
and textile designer
Suzanne Tick
are working together to benefit the
Publicolor Summer Design Studio
, a seven-week program for at-risk teens that includes design classes, related work experience, SAT prep workshops, and volunteering projects.
The goal: for students to return to school in the fall ahead of where they were when the multi-month recess began (research shows that an absence of organized activities can lead to loss in partial grade equivalency for low-income students).
Clients of Tandus Centiva
will help fund Publicolor
simply by purchasing one of more than 40 designs from a Suzanne Tick collection of soft surface flooring.
When a product from this collection is purchased for a K-12 or higher education project $0.10 per square yard will be donated to Publicolor.
Tick has worked with the non-profit previously, and served as a member its Board. This is the first partnership of its kind for Tandus Centiva, who made a retroactive donation based on 2013 sales to kick off the partnership and help fund the current Summer Design Studio.
“We were all instantly inspired by their work,” says Erin Dempsey Istanbulluoglu, director of environmental and social stewardship. “We are beginning to bring more of the local design community into contact with Publicolor so that they too might want to get involved. We recently hosted a Saturday Paint Day with
Gensler
in New York. Publicolor is in need of mentors, tutors, and volunteers so there are many ways designers can give of their time.”
