Train: The Asics New York Flagship by Mapos

When Colin Brice and Caleb Mulvena discovered a real 1960’s New York subway car, graffiti and all, in California’s Mojave Desert, of all places, the Mapos cofounders knew they’d found the perfect focal point for the New York flagship of Asics, the Japanese sportswear company. Mannequins sporting the Japanese company’s sneakers and athletic apparel “ride” the train as it runs down the center of the 5,000-square-foot shop, while the shoe shelving outside incorporates a pattern derived from the city’s street grid. Furthering the brand experience, custom lockers allow customers to store their belongings while taking products on a test run in nearby Central Park.
