Trend of the Week: Cindy’s Design Eye… Top 10!
As an editor who is constantly reviewing submissions from across the globe, day after day, lots of mini trends reveal themselves. For the Fall 2016 Market Tabloid, I realized quite quickly that eyes were popping up all over… so we produced a whole feature on just them. Since then, I’ve had my eye on eyes (and noses, and mouths, and other body parts—but that’s a WHOLE other trend for another day)! Twin dynamic duo, Jayne and Joan of 2Michaels designed this Upper West Side apartment for a photographer and her family, using soft hues and an eclectic mix of midcentury pieces from Weinberg Modern AND the amazing “eye” photography from Sam Samore to create a chic, yet comfy, home. Eye on Design #7: A BLUSHING BEAUTY. Elizabeth Arden never looked better, thanks to a Connecticut office makeover by Glenn Leitch. Most dramatic was a serpentine feature wall fronting a pair of conjoined meeting rooms with rows of round holes filled with 2,400 makeup brushes, customized with handles in red rather than traditional black! Eye on Design #8: EYE CATCHING! Mexican artist Pedro Reyes had his first solo exhibition with Lisson Gallery in New York. He presented a group of new sculptures made from volcanic stone, marble, and concrete. Surrounding these are over 150 works on paper, installed floor-to-ceiling on the gallery walls. This was the first presentation to feature drawings by Reyes at such scale or diversity. Wowza… I’ll take one of everything!
Eye on Design #9: OMG! Okay, the mouth is a bit off, but oh my goodness…look at that face?! This image was taken by a random guy and is getting so much online attention because we all see the same thing…how the windows and door animate the facade!
