These Wool Rugs Reflect The Poetry Of Plants
Recreating nature’s beauty is no simple undertaking. Yet that was the aim of Botanica, Gan’s first collaboration with London-based German designer Bodo Sperlein, which draws inspiration from the intricate structures and layered elements of flora and fungi. The high level of detail was achieved through carefully selected color gradients and varying pile heights, the latter executed by skilled artisans in India who combine hand-tufting and -carving. This meeting of hue and volume gives the 100 percent wool rugs their realistic, three-dimensional quality and sense of movement. “I’m particularly drawn to organic forms, materiality, and the relationship between craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics,” says Sperlein, known for fusing the artisanal with the au courant. Available in three colors (yellow, green, and gray) as well as two sizes (79 by 79 inches and 95 by 146).
