Float Studio Focuses on Versatility for The Commons, a SoHo Test Kitchen and Event Space

Kitchens are the hearts of many spaces. “It’s where people go for comfort,” Float Studio designer Barbara Giacoman says. For The Commons, a SoHo test kitchen and event space for Tasting Table, Giacoman has created a space that provides that sense of refuge. Warm oxblood cabinets mix with potted plants. Sunlight floods in through windows and a skylight. But Giacoman was concerned not just with how it would look, but how to craft a space that could alternate between test kitchen, video set, and event space. Her solution? Moveable islands and a flexible layout. The result accommodates a range of needs and chefs.
