Bio : As Founding Principal of Montalba Architects, Inc., David Montalba is the driving force of leadership and design within the firm. MA Inc, is a diverse architecture and design studio of over 40 designers based in Santa Monica, California with a satellite office in Lausanne, Switzerland. The firm is engaged in retail, residential and other select commercial projects across the United States and abroad. Believing that architecture and ones environment can truly improve quality of life, David’s approach is a humanistic one, which often leads to solutions that are discrete, contextual, yet conceptual in their intent, effect, and appeal.

David’s diverse background as an architect includes over 24 years of professional practice, and this work has been recognized in various publications and with numerous awards, including the AIA’s National Young Architect Award in 2008, a 2011 AIA Institute Honor Award, and over 35 other design awards.

Academic activities and community involvement are integral to David’s practice. He teaches at UCLA AUD/Graduate School of Architecture, and has served as a past Board Member and Treasurer of the Los Angeles chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and as an advisor to the AIA’s Academic Outreach, 2×8 Exhibition Committee and the Dwell on Design Committee. David has also served as an active Board Member of the A+D Museum in Los Angeles. He is a registered LEED professional and a member of the AIA, SIA, and NCARB while being a licensed architect in the states of California, Florida, Wyoming, Nevada, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York, as well as British Columbia, Canada.
