This New York Exhibit Reimagines Soccer’s Cultural Influence
As soccer (or football) fever sweeps New York City in the midst of the World Cup, Crosby Studios is offering a look at the sport from a new vantage point. The Paris- and New York-based practice, founded by Harry Nuriev, unveils “Home of Football: Home & Away,” an exhibition at High Line Nine in Chelsea that examines football’s cultural influence.
Created with Home of Football and curatorial collective Air Afrique, the exhibition features six interconnected environments where architecture and art meet athletics. Visitors can glimpse more than 60 rare objects from The Manzano Heritage Collection, including match-worn jerseys, trophies, archival photographs, and memorabilia like Pelé’s jersey from Brazil’s 1958 World Cup victory. There’s also an installation dedicated to the New York Cosmos.
On view through July 19, the exhibit’s architecture reinforces its themes. A mint-green palette—referencing the color of a football field—extends throughout the galleries, while circular motifs appear in lighting, graphics, and spatial elements, echoing the geometry of the ball and the center circle of the field. The result is an environment that frames football as a shared cultural language rather than simply a competitive sport.
Walk Through “Home of Football: Home & Away”
“This concept is about the clash between football, fashion, and art culture,” says Nuriev. “It is a form of cultural transformism, translating the energy and visual codes of football into a new media format that feels open and accessible, not only to football fans, but also to people discovering this world for the first time.”
The exhibition also marks the debut of The Crosby Shop, a tech-forward retail concept that offers studio merchandise alongside some of Nuriev’s favorite fashion, skincare, design, and technology brands, several of which are making their U.S. debut. Visitors can also stop by a Balira Coffee pop-up created by former Real Madrid midfielder and World Cup champion Sami Khedira, who is scheduled to make select appearances during the exhibition’s run.
For Home of Football co-founders Josh Murphy and Timothy Hagius, the project reflects a broader ambition to position football as a defining cultural force. “Much of its influence exists beyond the field—in the communities it builds, the creativity it inspires, and the sense of belonging it creates,” they say.
Air Afrique cofounder Ahmadou-Bamba Thiam echoes that sentiment, describing football as “the mirror of the world” and emphasizing its ability to connect people across cultures and generations.
