Lexus Unveils First Luxury Yacht
Earlier this month, Lexus premiered its flagship luxury yacht, the LY 650, in Boca Raton. The 65-foot vessel is based off the sport yacht concept that the company first showed in 2017, pointing the luxury brand seaward.
The LY 650 is the result of a collaboration with Italian yacht design studio Novolari Lenard and Marquis Yachts in Pulaski, Wisconsin, which used aspects of the legendary Toyota Production System for the project. A light and rigid composite hull was jointly developed with Marquis Yachts LLC.
Lexus sought to translate the design language of its luxury cars to a sport yacht. Exterior details include a pronounced bow and coupe-like roofline, with metallic accents and an optional two-tone color scheme.
The interiors are driven by the Japanese concept of “omotenashi,” an approach to hospitality built around anticipating guests’ needs. A light color scheme fosters a sense of openness, combined with enveloping curved lines for a comfortable cruise. High-level craftsmanship is apparent throughout, from the custom-finished wood trim to hand-sewn seat surfaces. Three berths below deck each have more than 6 feet of headroom and a private bath with shower.
Built for performance, the LY 650 is driven by twin Volvo Penta IPS engines with a uniquely engineered underwater hull shape for high output and low fuel consumption. The new yacht will appear at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show from October 30 through November 3, 2019.
