Milan Via Bangkok: Piero Lissoni Brings Refined Style to Cotto

debuted Pætchwork, a new collection of tiles, bathroom fixtures, fittings and accessories by esteemed Italian designer Piero Lissoni, who was also tasked with designing the brand’s exhibition space.

Upon entering the white gravel courtyard, visitors are met by a sculptural installation that layers together Cotto’s floor and wallcoverings, displayed upright on giant square and rectangular canvases. Placed in sharp contrast to the weathered stone facade of the surrounding architecture, the serene scene is reflected in a mirrored wall that wraps the perimeter of the space.

Inside, the brand has arranged the new tiles, fittings and fixtures into a series of nine vignettes. The tiles, characterized by the sort of refined simplicity that we’ve come to expect from Lissoni, are available in glossy and matte finishes, mixing subtle graphic patterns with neutral shades such as white, beige, dark blue, dark gray, graphite and eggshell.

Set against the tiled backdrops, the four sinks—in both suspended and console versions—boast rectangular shapes with soft, rounded edges and are produced in a bright glossy white ceramic. Similarly the bidet and toilet are available in both floor-mounted and suspended versions and possess the same rounded corners as the washbasins. The toilets include a soft-close hinge lid with quick release system and are rimless for maximum hygiene. The collection is completed by a series of chromed faucets with square pipes and rounded bases that echo the design sensibility of the fittings.

Designed to appeal across the board, the new launch is part of a conscious effort in recent years by the Asian brand to increase its appeal in the western market—an effort that is fortified during the Salone by “Another Perspective,” an exhibition located in Milan’s Lambrate design district that showcases conceptual bathroom products and fittings created by emerging designers and curated by Cotto.
