SCAD Museum Of Art Turns 15

Eva Jospin, Max Lamb, Anish Kapoor. Each has shown their installations, furniture, and paintings, respectively, at Georgia’s SCAD Museum of Art, which, in addition to featuring emerging and established international creatives through commissioned works and rotating exhibitions, also serves as a resource for Savannah College of Art and Design students and alumni during their academic careers and beyond. On view now is “The SCAD Museum of Art Celebrates 15 Years,” showcasing the drawings of SCAD alum, professor, and former dean of its school of building arts, architect Christian Sottile, whose firm, Sottile & Sottile, in 2011, amalgamated the museum’s 1853 structure, once the Central of Georgia Railway depot—a National Historic Landmark that is the country’s only surviving antebellum railroad complex—with 82,000 square feet of new galleries, classrooms, and art storage. Other original materials—models, a video—that depict Sottile’s process, chief curator Daniel S. Palmer says, “help audiences discover the ways that the museum’s building and program are at the center of the learning and discovery that happens every day at SCAD.” sottile.cc; scadmoa.org
