Tour the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach 2020
Fans of the annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York once again have the bonus of an enticing late-winter prelude to the cherished spring event: the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach, its newer southern counterpart. Open to the public from February 1–March 1, 2020 and now in its third year, the Show House spotlights the extraordinary talent of 19 local, national, and international designers within more than 8,700 square feet of interior space and nearly an acre of grounds at the Plantation-style home of famed designer Lars Bolander. In less than three months, the designers transformed the South-African Dutch colonial-inspired dwelling, which is located at 260 Palmetto Lane in West Palm Beach and affectionately known as Bamboo Hill, into a tropical fantasia of stunning interiors and lush gardens.
Inside, after passing through Miami-based Alizee Brion’s delightful “Le Jardin” entry awash in images of lily pads, bamboo fronds, and tropical flowers, a palm-inflected foyer by the Southampton-based father-daughter team of Brian and Alexandra Brady of Brady Design offers a serene moment of quiet decompression before opening up to Atlanta-based designer Suzanne Kasler’s dreamy reinvention of a expansive double-height great room. It brims with the air of a sun-drenched tropical garden in full spring bloom with its walls wrapped in a custom De Gournay wallpaper and its ample spaces defined with an artful mix of vintage French rattan and modern furnishings from her own collection for Hickory Chair.
Among the highlights outdoors around the oversized pool are New York-based Sherrill Canet’s crisply inviting seating area beneath the covered exterior loggia. Here, she artfully balanced antiques with modern pieces from her own collection for Richardson Allen in a black and white scheme. Equally enticing is Nashville-based Jonathan Savage’s “Cabana Hideaway,” which is graciously fitted out with Indonesian teak furnishings, luxe fabrics including sheer inverted pleat drapery from The Shade Store, and a plush upholstered daybed from Sutherland Furniture.
