Wallace-Sewell Forays Into Rugs to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Finsbury, textured cotton-velvet, is the result of a collaboration between Wallace Sewell and Designtex.

College friendships can be fleeting or fruitful. Firmly in the latter is the bond between Harriet Wallace-Jones and Emma Sewell, who, in 1992, parlayed the sensibilities they shared at the Royal College of Art into a signature brand, Wallace Sewell. “We fused Emma’s preoccupation for structure and performance with my love of asymmetric stripes and blocks,” Wallace-Jones says of the scarves, throws, cushions, and upholstery fabrics that followed.

Fielden is from Wallace Sewell’s first-ever collection of rugs.

Now, the two kick off their 25th anniversary with a first-ever collection of rugs. Prompted by customer requests, the designs are hand-knotted wool loosely adapted from existing fabrics, the influence obvious in the colorful geometry of Fielden. The designers are also broadening their collaboration with Designtex in Finsbury, a textured cotton-velvet.
