1,000 Attend Interior Design’s 9th Annual Best of Year Awards
The design industry’s best and brightest turned out en masse last night to celebrate Interior Design‘s 9th annual Best of Year Awards, held at Frank Gehry’s IAC Building in New York. The space filled quickly with 1,000 designers, architects and manufacturers excited to learn the winners in both the Products and Projects sections of the awards. (See all Product winners here and Project winners here.) The program was hosted by Interior Design president Mark Strauss and editor in chief Cindy Allen, who remarked of the Product voting, “You guys did a great job. As editors, we tend to be control freaks, but I have to say I agree with you this time!” Allen also announced winners in a new subcategory recognizing materials innovation, in partnership with Interior Design‘s sister company Material ConneXion, then surprised the crowd by selecting two Project winners each in Healthcare, Gallery/Museum, Theater, and Residential Other.
The Best of Year Awards followed an equally unprecedented celebration the previous evening at Interior Design‘s Hall of Fame 30th Anniversary, which honored 2014 inductees Hagy Belzberg of Belzberg Architects; David Lake and Ted Flato of Lake|Flato; Paola Navone of Paola Navone; and Andrea Woodner of Design Trust for Public Space, the recipient of a special leadership award.
