200 Attend Interior Design’s Third Annual Wine & Design
The pristine lobby of New York’s One57, designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Christian de Portzamparc, welcomed 200 designers and manufacturers for the third anniversary of Interior Design’s Wine & Design, an annual celebration of Spanish culture and design hosted in partnership with Interiors From Spain and Wines From Spain.
Swept up the marble staircase to the second-floor events space, early arrivals were treated to a tour of the newly opened Park Hyatt New York with interiors by Interior Design Hall of Fame members George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg of Yabu Pushelberg. The luxurious hotel occupies the first 25 floors of the 90-story, 1,005-foot-high tower, and guests enjoyed designer-led tours through the common spaces, the restaurant, the fitness center, and several suites. The design—not to mention the view—was breathtaking.
Back on the second floor, guests began with with a welcome aperitivo of Llopart Brut Reserva Rosé, followed by a seated tasting in the hotel’s glittering Onyx Room, named for its 28 feet of backlit white, Italian onyx rising from floor to ceiling. Joshua Wesson, sommelier and co-founder of Best Cellars, walked the crowd through Spanish wines from Albariño to Grenache before Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen announced the winners of door prizes. After the formal tasting, the crowd enjoyed a veritable feast of more wines and Spanish delicacies from a pâté of foie gras to cabrales cheese and a glistening leg of jamón ibérico.
As the night came to a close, last call went out and few people budged. Clearly, all it takes for a good party is good wine and design. And maybe some Spanish flair.
Interior Design thanks the evening’s sponsors: Arturo Alvarez, Bover, Capdell, Estiluz, Famaliving, Gandia Blasco, Interiors from Spain, Marset, Nanimarquina, NOW Carpets, Porcelanosa, SPEHO, Vibia, Vondom, and Wines From Spain.
