4 Product Designers Talk Process at 11th Annual First Look

To kick of the 11th annual First Look product showcase at the New York Design Center, Interior Design hosted a panel discussion on the behind-the-scenes of product design, moderated by editor in chief Cindy Allen. Panelists Brad Ascalon of his namesake studio, Ghislaine Viñas of Ghislaine Viñas Interior Design, textile extraordinaire Jhane Barnes, and Interior Design Hall of Fame member Michael Vanderbyl of Vanderbyl Design shared the stories behind some of our favorite products. As Allen said, “We want to get the inside dirt.” Each of the panelists walked the audience through their individual design process and inspiration, client relations, and how creativity can evolve over time. Ascalon probably said it best: “No design is the product of one person—I’ve had some really good people support me.” After the discussion conclusion, the crowd was set free to explore the 29 participating showrooms and their new products.
