Interior Design and Dornbracht Preview Project 6 Showroom in NYC

On March 14, 2018, a select group of designers were given the chance to preview an entirely new showroom concept in NYC. It’s called Project 6, and it’s the first ever international architectural specifications studio for the bath and faucet sectors. AF | New York’s new space is designed by Desai Chia Architecture, and features six leading brands.

At an event hosted by Interior Design and Dornbracht, AF principal Bennett Friedman introduced architects and designers to the space. Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen moderated a panel with Katherine Chia of Desai Chia and Ingolf Matthée of Dornbracht.

“We try to experiment with light and materials in each of our projects,” Chia said as she shared examples from her portfolio. The firm translated that approach to the Project 6 brief and came up with a creative design that allows for flexibility. Moveable plinths and walls mean that the participating brands can easily erect new displays, while structures scattered throughout provide a place for meetings or other activations.

“In the end, we’re not just talking about products, we’re talking about solutions,” Matthée said of the space. He explained how the modularity of the showroom will allow Dornbracht to explore themes such as aging in place or the private spa in more depth.

Members of the A&D community had the opportunity to experience the showroom firsthand and get a taste of how they can use this new tool before it opens to the public during NYCxDesign.
