The Warm Side of Minimalism

Forget the day spa. The sleek yet warm Ocavo collection, designed by Christian Werner for Duravit, transforms any home bathroom into a serene and sophisticated retreat. Inspired by Germany’s Black Forest, the furniture range has a minimalist aesthetic rooted in nature, with each rich, solid-oak piece showcasing exceptional workmanship and its own distinctive grain. No two are alike. So for those looking to create a bathroom that feels deeply personal, modern, and beautifully designed, Ocavo checks all the boxes. And it happens to be absolutely gorgeous and eco-friendly as well.

“With Ocavo, my idea was to translate the power and tranquillity of the forest into a piece of furniture: authentic, pure, and sensual,” industrial designer Werner says. “The grain, scent, and texture of oak form the basis of a design that brings clarity and adds something special to everyday life.”

Comprising a vanity, tall cabinets, a mirror and mirror cabinets, Ocavo’s silhouette features sharp, clean geometry with straight lines, tapered edges, and a handle with a chamfered edge. The vanities integrate well with Duravit’s ME by Starck sinks, while the console version works well with other Duravit countertop sinks. Corresponding semi-tall cabinets not only provide adequate storage but also remain streamlined and harmonious with the other components of the collection. Mirrors with solid wood frames and matching cabinets fit in perfectly with the rest of the range, with added LED lighting tying together the entire look.

Top-rate craftsmanship is on display throughout the pieces, all made of oak, cultivated from sustainably managed forests in Europe and manufactured at a state-of-the-art PEFC-certified furniture factory in the Black Forest. The PEFC seal guarantees the oak was responsibly forested and meets specified ecological, economic, and social standards. Ocavo comes in three solid wood versions: Natural oak exudes a deep, warm coziness; light oak feels bright and airy; and dark, moody black oak looks modern and elegant. Between the naturally harvested materials and regional manufacturing, Ocavo is a supremely environmentally sustainable product line that’s also exquisitely crafted.

The dovetail joints on Ocavo’s vanity drawers tell a story of their own—one of intricate detail, ultimate durability, and a long life span. Dovetail joinery attaches two boards of a drawer at the corner with interlocking wedge-shaped pins and tails; this unique type of joinery promises an extremely sturdy product that’s virtually impossible to pull apart.

The semi-tall cabinets from this series provide an opportunity to make the bathroom distinctly personal. Available in the three standard oak finishes, cabinet doors are offered in solid wood or Parsol glass, with beveled handle strips on both versions.

The bathroom mirrors and mirror cabinets come in the same standard solid wood frames to create a unified look with the other elements of the series. The option of a lacquered finish enhances product durability.

At times, something that’s designed to be minimalist looks cold, like it has no soul. But that is not Ocavo. This collection has character. It tells a story—warm, welcoming, homey yet luxurious.
