A+N Studio Brings Nature’s Fluidity Indoors
Alissa van Asseldonk and Nienke Bongers, who met at the Design Academy Eindhoven, founded their studio in 2014 to create research-based objects and installations for interiors—think tactile walls and Breathing Lights that simulate the cycles of respiration. The Dutch duo’s bespoke creations have graced spaces ranging from Dior showrooms to Fendi stores to the Lowlands music festival outside Amsterdam. During Salone del Mobile in Milan, the pair showed works from their Transparency & Fluidity series at Rossana Orlandi Gallery and Solidified, including fused-glass wall sculpture Confetti #06 and cut, bent stainless-steel sheet Pop. The grouping, van Asseldonk explains, “started from the idea of exploring how to bring the feeling of nature, effects like water, into interiors.” The modules, accents in their own right, also function as working prototypes from which the designers develop their wall treatments and installations. Confetti #01, for instance, was part of the development process for the pair’s silvered-glass Fluid mirror, also shown during Salone. a-plus-n.com
