Ikonstudio Unveils Stylish Seating With A Rich History

Ikonstudio, a newly launched brand, brings iconic, architecturally minded furniture from yesteryear into the present. Take these two collections of archival pieces by heavy-hitters Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Louis Kahn, respectively. The SOM79 chair, created in 1979 for the New York office and showroom of fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick, aka Halston, has a fluid chrome-plated frame imbued with appropriately heady glamour. (A corresponding table’s tubular legs form a sleek “H” shape, visible through the glass top.) As for Kahn, this marks the first time his designs have been made available through contemporary production. Gems include the angular LK48 Genel lounge, imagined in 1948 for a residence near Philadelphia, and his LK53 Radbill chairs, commissioned by the eponymous oil company for a 1953 renovation project. Available through Studio TK and Teknion.
