Janus et Cie Celebrates 40 Years, Reveals New Collection by Lievore Altherr
The occasion of Janus et Cie’s 40th anniversary—having grown from a single Los Angeles showroom to 19 flagships worldwide—proves an opportune time to look forward and back, just as the brand’s Roman namesake, double-faced god Janus, does. Pause to consider a few best-sellers, many a collaboration between founder Janice Feldman and top designers including Jorge Pensi, Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, and Paola Navone. Michael Vanderbyl’s encircling Azimuth linear club chair (2004) sports a powder-coated aluminum frame, here in White Vermouth. The Matilda lounge armchair (2005), shown in Java, features synthetic fiber handwoven over a powder-coated steel frame. Both armchairs from the iconic Amari collection (2011) sport aluminum frames, one with handwoven Janusfiber and one wittily half-woven. As for the future, the new Zebra collection, by Studio Lievore Altherr, earns its stripes. The die-cast aluminum armchair and side chair can also be specified with cushions.
