Hella Jongerius And Maharam Mark 25 Years With New Collection

Jubilee, Hella Jongerius’s latest collaboration with the New York textile giant, marks the 25th—and slated to be final—year of their highly fruitful partnership. Together they have created more than 40 products since 2001, among them delicate Washi, with its overlapping translucent color blocks; geometric Repeat Dot Ring; nubby woven Chroma; and fringed rug Chorus. Jubilee, in mercerized cotton and worsted wool, leans into the Dutch industrial designer’s experimental approach and use of handmade variation. The fabric reinterprets motifs and techniques from her body of work: Repeat’s houndstooth from 2002, Layers’s machine embroidery from 2008, and Eden’s intricately stitched insects from 2014. Four colorways include soft pearl and cream, silvery taupe, rich mahogany, and olive with evergreen, plus embroidery in shades ranging from bold citrine to burnished copper. “There is power in working with people for a long time,” Jongerius says of her decades-long communion with Maharam. “You grow together and only need half a word. It’s a generous exchange.” maharam.com
