Palet’s Modular Tile System Invites Designers To Play With Color
Four years ago, three friends with diverse backgrounds—design, coding, and craft—came together to create a modular wall tile system combining digital precision with the unpredictability of ceramic glaze firing. Their Netherlands-based company, Palet, was born of their desire to bridge the gap between lackluster mass-produced tile and prohibitively expensive hand-painted examples. This year marked international expansion for the brand and a wider rollout of its tools and tile library across Europe and North America. The made-to-order system offers a whopping 700,000+ options, allowing designers and the general public to specify bespoke water-resistant surfaces with unique color and tactility—and at a low 1 square meter minimum. Palet uses a proprietary digital design tool, a production-grade printer, and an evolving glaze library to create 149mm tiles (translation: just shy of 6 inches) with variations in tone and surface depth best appreciated up close, while at a distance appearing bold and unified. Designs are made to order with a 6- to 8-week turnaround. palet.shop
