How A Tokyo Wellness Facility Invites A Sense Of Calm
2025 Best of Year Winner for Beauty/Spa
Inducing a flow state is the primary goal of Carappo Toranomon Hills, a Tokyo comprehensive wellness facility by Tanseisha Co., its name Japanese for emptiness or infinite potential and its 22,000-square-foot environment inspired by the traditional Zen principles of mindfulness, simplicity, and self-reflection. Natural materials such as rough-hewn and polished Date-Kanmuri volcanic stone, ceramic tile, and wood manifest the metaphor and celebrate the beauty of imperfection, yielding grounding settings for the entry lounge, saunas, spas, meditation room, and Technogym workout areas, which span a single floor of the Toranomon Hills Station Tower. Integrated technology—heartrate monitors in the glass-enclosed HIT studio, the meditation room’s image and light projections—enhance the mental-physical connection. Palettes—largely black, gray, and white—lack visual noise, so guests can effortlessly hone their focus on body and mind.
