Tap Into Creativity At This Modular Play Space In China
2025 Best of Year Winner for Kids Zone
Enlisted for Deya Day Care and After-School Center’s inaugural location in Yantai, China, 11-design made a splash—and saved money and resources—by employing a modular custom system based on the familiar form of a tent. Orange tubular-steel frames (with integrated light fixtures), Sunbrella canvas, and birch-plywood sheets were use to craft every element—from multifunctional tiered play platforms to nap mats—throughout the 2,476 square feet. Even blackboard stands and coat hooks derive from the same kit-of-parts, which was both budget-conscious and locally sourced. At Deya, structure becomes furniture, partition, and décor, not to mention an adaptable playground for exploration and improvisation that taps into children’s inherent creativity.
