Houston’s largest green space is currently undergoing a series of restorations and renovations as part of a 10-year master plan. Integrated into the new running complex—adjacent to a 400-meter track and nature trail—is Memorial Park Running Complex Café, a 3,000-square-foot café serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus all-day coffee service, with proceeds benefiting the park’s conservancy. The indoor/outdoor venue by Schaum Architects has a patio with a 30-foot cantilevered roof referencing the military buildings that occupied the site more than a century ago, separated from the interior by way of an operable glass wall that frames the surrounding native plants and trees. It’s the perfect place to carbo-load before a long run.
