At The Mondrian Gold Coast Hotel, Restaurants Set The Mood

There is an effortless confidence to the hospitality spaces Alexander &CO. has created for the The Mondrian Gold Coast, a luxury, five-star lifestyle hotel located in Burleigh Heads, Queensland, Australia. Rather than relying on familiar coastal motifs, the Sydney studio has delivered interiors that feel sophisticated, tactile and intrinsically connected to their setting.

On the ground floor, LiTO functions as an Italian restaurant, lobby and bar. Responding to the brief for a space that could seamlessly shift from morning coffee to late-night cocktails, Alexander &CO. tackled the challenge through a careful balance of scale and intimacy. Monumental architectural gestures are softened by richly textured materials and handcrafted details, creating spaces that feel warm and welcoming rather than overtly formal. Natural light animates the interiors throughout the day, lending the space a sense of movement and encouraging guests to settle in and stay awhile.

Upstairs, Haven adopts a distinctly different mood. Set beside the hotel’s pool, the seafood restaurant and Pool Club embrace a more relaxed, leisurely pace. The design blurs the boundaries between inside and out, reinforcing the experience of dining in close proximity to the ocean and sky. Robust, natural materials have been selected not only for their beauty but for their ability to weather a demanding coastal environment gracefully. Layered finishes and a restrained palette create depth and atmosphere without distracting from the setting itself.

“The two venues are elevated beachside and feel as if they have been carved into rock by Burleigh’s wind and ocean; pumice-like, patinated Euro-inspired vignettes of soft render, handmade tiles and curved concrete profiles are layered by custom timber, brass and leather furniture in tones of burgundies, sage green, rust, tan and brown,” says the design team.

Together, LiTO and Haven demonstrate Alexander &CO.’s skill in creating hospitality interiors that are experiential rather than merely decorative. The result is a pair of venues that feel both elevated and easy-going, capturing the contemporary spirit of the Gold Coast through an understated and highly considered design language.
