Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox Inspires Prestwood Infant School
Miss Trunchbull, the boorish headmistress from Matilda, is rumored to be based on a teacher from Prestwood Infant School in the London commuter village of Great Missenden, once home to the book’s author, Roald Dahl. Luckily, the current administration holds no grudge. Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox was approved as the idea behind the architecture firms De Rosee Sa and PMR’s building to house a cafeteria and an after-school facility.
Max de Rosee, Claire Sa, Edward Martin, and Alex Raher gave the 1,200-square-foot Little Hall a facade of colorfully stained cedar battens installed to create peaks representing the houses in Mr. Fox’s underground village. And most of the windows are low, so even the smallest students, peering inside, can feel involved in the fun.
