Studio Formafantasma Recreates Ettore Sottsass’s Vision With Cromatica Tile System

Ettore Sottsass looms large in the archives of CEDIT-Ceramiche D’Italia. Just ask Studio Formafantasma partners Simone Farresin and Andrea Trimarchi, who prove the timelessness of the Memphis legend’s vision with Cromatica. The ceramic tile system springs from original glazes Sottsass developed for the manufacturer in the late 1990’s. But this is no history tutorial, as the pair’s real ambition is to unleash the true potential of the palette. Seven solid colors and two gradients, in natural or glossy finishes, can be engineered to create new shades and countless variations, even within the same tile. Given the infinite number of compositions, the manufacturer also suggests templates to help spark the creative process.
