Ulla Johnson’s NYC Boutique Takes After a Town House
What began as a residential project morphed into a women’s fashion boutique that resembles a residence. “Ulla originally contacted me about a town house she was considering,” Elizabeth Roberts recalls. “She hired me to design her New York store instead.” That store is Ulla Johnson, the 17-year-old, boho-chic brand’s first bricks-and-mortar site that Elizabeth Roberts Architecture & Design fashioned into “front and rear parlor rooms.”
White-oak chevron flooring flows throughout, except where it’s interrupted by a swath of green marble. Tall mirrors and coved crowns emphasize the high ceiling, and the palette of gentle pinks and yellows are sunset-reminiscent. Alexis Brown Interior Design helped select the mix of custom and Danish vintage furnishings and the artworks. Even the cash-wrap desk, a pleasing oval fronted in cord-wrapped oak dowels, looks like furniture.
