W Design Brings Breezy, Beachy Vibe to an Ornate Holiday Home in Naples, Florida
A philanthropic couple was looking for a Florida holiday home that would eventually become their permanent residence. They found it in a house with a breathtaking view of the Intracoastal Waterway. Scratch that: The location was perfect; the early 2000’s house was not, nor did it capitalize on its vista. The ornate, Old World Mediterranean–style home with dark stucco walls and a compartmentalized floor plan would have to be completely transformed.
The homeowners yearned for a more open layout and a lighter color palette that would give the house a breezy, beachy feel. And being very family focused, they wanted comfortable but durable hangout spaces for their kids and grandkids. Wendy Berry of W Design introduced a transitional style with coastal cool influences—such as the nautical-rope guardrails on the children’s custom bunk beds, a motif that’s repeated in the jaunty blue-and-white rug.
Quality was key throughout. The master bedroom rug, for instance, is made of hand-knotted Tibetan wool masterfully sheared to form a dimensional pattern. Characterful ceiling beams in the family room are reclaimed. Bleached timber flooring; crisp white cabinetry in the kitchen, light blue in the poolside bathroom; and traditional accents all add up to a casually elegant atmosphere— one that completely exceeded the clients’ expectations.
