Long before she was shaping leadership conversations in commercial interiors, Shannon Crider Langley was a Chattanooga-born kid and a carpet salesman’s daughter who turned flooring samples into sleds on rare snow days. It’s a small story with a big tell: From the beginning, she understood design as a feeling and experience, practical, human and full of possibility. This defines her instinctive leadership today. Crider Langley doesn’t simply enter a room; she changes it with ease that instantly makes people feel seen and understood. As Shaw Contract’s workplace and sustainability marketing director, she operates at the intersection of workplace design and customer relationships, translating complex ideas such as sustainability, wellness, and product performance into experiences that shape design thinking and professional growth. After the pandemic, Crider Langley paid close attention to what many were living, but few were addressing. Industry burnout was widespread; passion was fading. Generations of designers were questioning whether empathy, creativity, and balance in their work were possible. Crider Langley felt personally compelled to act. Rather than talk about it, she built for it. The result is Shaw Contract’s Creative Wellness, a program she championed and envisioned to help designers reignite the spark that brought them to the profession. Through immersive, in-person experiences, Creative Wellness equips designers with practical tools for creative expression, reflection, and renewal. Likewise, Design Ed Leadership gathers firm leaders to nurture an empathetic, connected, and courageous leadership style that strengthens studios from the inside out. In the past six months alone, more than 200 designers have participated in these programs. Under her leadership, Creative Wellness is expanding into digital experiences to broaden its reach. From carpet samples turned sleds to industry-shaping initiatives, Crider Langley’s influence has always started with people, making her a true leader and a visionary who proves that when design puts humanity first, the entire industry excels.
