1stdibs Spotlights Contemporary Makers During Milan Design Week
1stdibs has launched “A New Breed,” an exhibition celebrating contemporary makers who blur the lines between design and sculpture, at Milan Design Week 2018. Photography courtesy of 1stdibs.
Salone del Mobile 2018 is well underway and the global design cognoscenti have landed in Milan to experience the latest collectible objects and furnishings. To coincide with the citywide festivities, 1stdibs has launched “A New Breed,” an exhibition celebrating contemporary makers who blur the lines between design and sculpture. Showcased in a classic Milanese villa are new and custom pieces by nearly 30 emerging artists and designers, including Ben Medansky, Birnam Wood Studio, and Wentrcek / Zebulon.
Each object is available exclusively through the 1stdibs New & Custom marketplace, launched in November 2016 to spotlight young makers pushing boundaries of design and craftsmanship. “We’re showing these pieces to say that we’re actively playing in the contemporary design category, which is about elevating young designers,” says Cristina Miller, chief commercial officer of 1stdibs. Check out the exhibition at Piazza San Sepolcro 2 from April 17-18.
