2021 NYCxDESIGN Awards Submissions Open Today

Submissions open today for Interior Design‘s sixth annual NYCxDESIGN Awards, which will be presented in a virtual ceremony during NYCxDESIGN’s Design Days May 13-18. The annual design competition honors the best products and projects in New York City. While a celebratory in-person gala is still out of the question, NYCxDESIGN’s Design Days, organized by the non-profit NYCxDESIGN, promise to feature an equally exhilarating lineup of virtual events and outdoor experiences across the five boroughs.

“The NYCxDESIGN Awards is an annual celebration of creativity, innovation, talent, and humanity. This year, for the love of New York, we add perseverance and resilience to that list,” says Cindy Allen, Interior Design Editor in Chief. “We encourage all to celebrate design—NYC style—and participate in this sixth-annual program to share our collective forward momentum and to recognize the people, products, and projects that illuminate the artistry and the bountiful harvest of ideas that give us hope for the future.”

Hosted by Interior Design, the NYCxDESIGN Awards honor outstanding products exhibited during New York City’s annual celebration of design as well as New York-based projects that debuted over the past year. This year, a virtual ceremony honoring winners, hosted by Allen, will be broadcast on DesignTV by SANDOW via interiordesign.net and Interior Design’s Facebook pageNew categories in 2021 include: web/virtual design, tabletop, dimensional art, people’s choice, iconic product, residential renovation/transformation, office renovation/transformation, hotel renovation/transformation, iconic project, and staircase.

Product submissions are open to products shown at NYCxDESIGN-affiliated events and to products shown in New York City-based showrooms, design centers, studios, or temporary installations. Project submissions are open to projects completed in any of NYC’s five boroughs between January 2020 and April 2021. The product and project submissions deadline is April 7, and finalists will be named on May 10.

Additionally, student product design submissions are open to products launched or exhibited either in conjunction with a class/course or a (virtual) show in the 2020-2021 academic year by graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in accredited design programs in New York City. The deadline for student submissions, which require no cost for entry, is May 7, 2021.

NYCxDESIGN, which nurtures NYC’s design sector by organizing and coordinating year-round activations, aims to continue amplifying the voices of design through this year’s festival programming.
