5 Trends Spotted at 3DaysofDesign

We’ve just returned from Denmark’s annual design event. From May 24-26, 90 brands and designers unveiled new concepts in Copenhagen.

1. Craftsmanship

Breaking from mass production, handcrafted products by skilled artisans reflect authenticity, originality, and timelessness.  

Rattan Cabinet by Mia Lagerman

Exploring the relationship between design, craft and industrial production, Mia Lagerman used rattan in this cabinet as a way to create patterns.

Wire Lounge Family by Overgaard & Dyrman

Designed by Jasper Overgaard and Christian Dyrman, this collection finds inspiration in traditional saddle making and metal work, and challenges the synergy and contrast in the use of materials.

2. Hygge

More than a simple word, hygge’s notion of coziness and well-being highly resonates in the decoration field, focusing on simplicity, small things, and curated objects to make the home more comfortable.

Hoop Vase by Unit 10 for Stelton

Taking inspiration from the Danish glasswork of the 1950’s, the sculptural, midnight blue glass vase is available in three sizes.

Building Table by Skagerak

Multifunctional and angular, this table–available in oak, light gray, and dark blue–is easy to combine.

Bau Watering Can by Ferm Living

Made of powder-coated, galvanized steel, this piece was inspired by the Bauhaus spirit.

3. Bold Colors

A neutral color palette is usually favored in Scandinavian design. However, bold hues are making a comeback, bringing energy and joy into the home.

Arqui Rug by Please Wait To Be Seated

Inspired by abstract architectural images created in collaboration with Ouur Media, these limited-edition rugs are hand-woven in India by master artisans.

4. Soft Curves

The use of curved and organic shapes–through small decorative objects, furniture, or lighting–is one of the best ways to create warm and inviting interiors.

5. New Classic

When an iconic piece of furniture is transformed thanks to a new color or material, it continues its legacy while responding to contemporary styles and trends.

60-year anniversary collection by Republic of Fritz Hansen

In celebrating the 60th anniversary of some of Arne Jacobsen’s most iconic designs, the Egg, the Swan and the Drop feature new materials (Pure leather for the Egg and the Swan, and Sera fabric for the Drop). The Egg and Swan chairs are available in a limited number up to 1,958 pieces each.

Tivoli Collection by Normann Copenhagen 

Inspired by the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, this new design brand created by Normann Copenhagen includes a collection of more than 300 objects that capture Tivoli’s magic and culture heritage. It will be available by fall 2018.

Fried Egg by Warm Nordic

Originally designed by Hans Olsen in 1956, this asymmetrical lounge chair has been specially selected for the Warm Nordic range as a tribute to Danish design.
