Core Studio Curates Industrial-Inspired Show in Eindhoven Garage
With space at a premium, exhibitors wishing to display their wares during international fairs must think outside the tradeshow box. Behold the subterranean exhibition “Hardcore,” held in eight rented spots at the fully operational Q-Park de Admirant garage in Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week. Curated by Core Studio, a multidisciplinary firm whose founders all met at the Design Academy Eindhoven, 17 contributors introduced industrial pieces among the painted lines and gritty ambience.
Products included a tubular chair by Lucas Muñoz built with standard ventilation pipe in galvanized steel fitted with a copper seat, SelfReflect, a cubist stool by Anton Hendrik Denys in treated stainless steel, and the indoor-outdoor Gravel table of molded silica stones and pigment by Tijs Gilde, one of Core Studio’s co-founders.
Other designs further pushed the hyper-ordinary aesthetic. Another co-founder, Fabian Briels, for example, draped leathery silicone fringe over his concrete Bruno bench and then displayed it on a utilitarian dolly. Iwan Pol formed the same material but sanded into the puzzle-like A Sidewalk, which incorporates a stool. Shinier, the polyester-clad Reflective collection by Nick Beens, fittingly resembled car parts.
