– UC Berkeley’s Center for Environmental Design (CED) awarded her the first biannual

Berkeley-Rupp Prize

for sustainability, community awareness, and the advancement of women in design and architecture.

“It is important for students to understand what it takes to make a building for work and for making things,” says the

Hall of Fame member of her accompanying CED professorship, “because it is in those spaces especially that the presence of architecture must be in balance with the forces of life.” Berke’s own life will have plenty to balance soon as she prepares for a CED lecture and retrospective of her work opening January 28.
