Gabriel Scott Transforms Milan’s Bar Basso With Negroni-Inspired Pendants

Bar Basso’s electric yet unpretentious atmosphere has become a mainstay of Milanese culture and a Salone del Mobile staple since the 1980’s. But during this year’s design week, Bar Basso veterans will notice something different about its interiors, unchanged by owner Maurizio Stocchetto since his father acquired it in 1967. That’s because Stocchetto, who first cemented Bar Basso’s popularity within the design community through friendships with Ron Arad, Jasper Morrison, and the late James Irvine, tapped Montreal studio Gabriel Scott to create custom lighting fixtures inside and develop a storefront jewel-box installation. Gabriel Scott will showcase an artistic display of the blown-glass Myriad Tall Chandelier in custom satin copper finishes and Welles Glass pendants in alabaster glass and copper hardware. Each complements the bar’s legendary Negroni Sbagliato, which substitutes gin for sparkling wine.

Bar Basso is located at Via Plinio 39 in Milan.
