L.A.’s Hammer Museum Hosts Major Frottage Exhibit
Max Ernst got excited about frottage. But not in the way you might think. The friction-based artistic technique has yielded such works as Ernst’s composition in pencil, from 1925, as well as examples by Henri Michaux, Do Ho Suh, and Roy Lichtenstein. “Apparitions: Frottages and Rubbings From 1860 to Now,” at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles through May 31, follows the evolution of the medium.
