JANUS Et Cie Honors 2024 Student Design Winners
The future of design is bright—that’s evident by the winners of JANUS et Cie‘s second annual student design competition. First held in 2022, this year’s global competition, in partnership with design collective RIOS, centered around placemaking, with emphasis on the dynamic relationship between pieces—how they cluster, group, and fit together to foster conversation and build community.
During an intimate ceremony at NeoCon held in the JANUS et Cie showroom at THE MART, Camille Ferreira of Istituto Marangoni in Milan took home the top honor as overall winner for Inter-LINK, her link-like product design that functions as an outdoor toy, seating, and planter to name a few uses. Four finalists also were honored at the event: Lijie Liu of ArtCenter College of Design, awarded the Olivia Bloomfield Inclusivity Award for Replanting; Emmett Lockridge, awarded Most Playful Award for Kinection, and JC Stewart, awarded Best Presentation Award for Relaxploration—both from Kansas State University; and Chloe Stanley of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, awarded Best Community Enrichment Award for Revival.

Per tradition, JANUS et Cie designated a competition Champion, bestowing the title on Christopher Locke, cofounder of Designing in Color. Through his multi-disciplinary lens, which includes filmmaking, Locke works to diversify the way architecture is taught and practiced, with projects shaped by social and spatial justice and design equity.
In recognition of their immense talent and contributions to design, JANUS et Cie’s 2024 student honorees took home cash prizes as well as matching amount awarded to their schools’ design programs. The jury for the competition featured design luminaries: Sebastian Herkner, founder of Studio Sebasian Herkner; Sebastian Salvadó, creative director and partner at RIOS; Jenny Myers, design director at RIOS; Adam Stover, senior principal at Populous; Dan Rubinstein, founder and host of The Grand Tourist podcast; and Carolina Zhang, VP of product design and development at JANUS et Cie.
