MAD Visionaries! Gala Honors the Romanoffs
The
Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)’s
annual Visonaries! Awards celebrate leaders in business, arts, philanthropy and creativity. This year, the awards recognize the
Maya Romanoff Corporation’s
Joyce Lehrer Romanoff and Maya Romanoff alongside fellow honorees Sophia Grojsman of
International Flavors & Fragrances Inc.
and Karyn Khourt of
The Estée Lauder Companies
.
“The far-reaching explorations of this year’s awardees exemplify MAD’s exploration of the world of design across all media and demonstrates how vital design is to every aspect of our lives,” says Holly Hotchner, director of MAD.
The annual gala, raising funds for MAD’s arts education program, will be held at New York’s
Mandarin Oriental
hotel on Tuesday, November 27. The evening will commence with a cocktail reception and a silent auction, followed by a special “scent dinner” infusing olfaction to the dinning experience, and awards presentations.
“Lifetime Achievement—does that mean I have to retire?” jokes Joyce Romanoff. “We are so grateful to MAD for this honor. It is humbling to be included in the incredible lineage of the Visionary Lifetime Achievement Award.”
“My aim has always been to create materials that will inspire people again and again,” adds Maya Romanoff. “Joyce and I have worked doggedly for decades to ensure Maya Romanoff materials are the most innovative, highest quality and most beautiful of any in the world. In doing so, we’ve not only created a strong company, but a strong company culture, bringing in the next generation of our family to lead into the future. This award signifies the beauty of our heritage and our legacy—I am deeply thankful.”
MAD’s upcoming exhibition, The Art of Scent, the museum’s first exhibition exploring the olfactory arts, inspired the gala theme, Scent. The exhibition will be on display from November 13, 2012, through February 24, 2013.
