Marc Ange’s Le Refuge Pops Up at Beverly Hills Hotel

Photography by Marc Ange.

Missed out on Salone del Mobile? You probably still recognize Le Refuge. That’s because the pastel-pink installation, designed by Parisian artist Marc Ange and exhibited in collaboration with the Invisible Collection and Wallpaper*, was recently named the most Instagrammed piece of Milan Design Week. (It made our roundup of Instagram highlights from the fair, too.) The oasis-like vignette, shaded by a canopy of perforated palm leaves, has moved to Los Angeles, where it will grace the Beverly Hills Hotel’s citrus garden until August 23. A recent L.A. transplant, Ange intends Le Refuge to evoke “the projection of a childhood memory away from reality, just like those of the imaginary jungle that grows in the room of a child who seeks escape”—a description befitting its new location a stone’s throw away from Hollywood. After a two-week run at the hotel, Le Refuge will move to nearby Leclaireur Gallery.
