Molteni Group Expands London Presence with a Sleek New Museum District Flagship
Italian furniture manufacturer and designer Molteni Group has opened its newest flagship store in the City of London. While two Molteni brands already have a presence in London, this is the first to be co-branded as a Molteni&C|Dada store. The 7,500-square-foot space also marks the manufacturer’s first brick-and-mortar distribution of the its full line of home and kitchen furnishings.
The flagship is located on Brompton Road in the heart of the City of London’s Museum District, opposite the Victoria and Albert museum. Designed by Molteni Group creative director Vincent Van Duysen, the interior is evocative of the brand’s Italian roots. Van Duysen, who served as the project’s art director, wanted the architecture to respect the building’s original features from the late 1800s.
Of course, Van Duysen put his own signature spin on reinterpreting the interior design of the flagship. Floor-to-ceiling glass screens create a secondary inner entrance, beyond which warm hues of walnut clad a breathtaking travertine marble staircase. Neutral shades of gray throughout the interior provide a clean backdrop for the array of furnishings on display. Suspended wood ceilings occasionally incorporate Korean walnut beams and create a playful exploration of space throughout.
“It is an honour to represent together with Molteni Group the quintessence of Italian design by creating a unique momentum in the city of bankers and creators,” Van Duysen said of the newly-opened store.
In celebration of its opening, the Molteni&C|Dada flagship will host works from The Collector’s House project, which features projects by contemporary artists exploring how art and design enhance each other. The collection debuted at the 2018 Salone del Mobile before moving to the Molteni Group’s New York City flagship.
