Novità’s Three Decades Of Design PR, From Italian Roots To New York Reach

The word novità means news in Italian, and Christine Abbate, founder of the New York–headquartered Novità Communications, was born in Bologna. It’s no surprise, then, that the design-focused PR agency originated with major Italian clients: Ceramics of Italy and the Italian Trade Commission (now Italian Trade Agency). Established in 1996 by Abbate in her Brooklyn basement as part of a women’s coworking space—which allowed her to oversee her two young children, who now work in the field—today, Novità represents a slew of trade shows, for decades: Cersaie, Coverings, NeoCon, NYCxDesign, and Salone del Mobile.Milano, along with others in the A&D community. It also counts DIFFA as a client, helping to steer the nonprofit’s expanded mission. Next up: a recently purchased loft in Milan to be used for pop-ups, dinners, and activations. “It expands our footprint in Europe,” Abbate says, “and takes our passion for Milano to the next level.” novitapr.com
