Perfectly Chilled: See Design Within Reach’s 15th-Annual Champagne Chair Contest Winners
The streets of Manhattan were nearly deserted on Thursday night as temperatures hovered in the single digits. Yet design enthusiasts filled the Design Within Reach showroom in SoHo for a night of sipping and celebrating at the brand’s 15th-annual Champagne Chair Contest.
Attendees mixed and mingled over glasses of Champagne Pommery, browsing the inventive designs from 20 peers and friends selected as finalists. Included among the designers, writers, chefs, and other creatives who collaborated with DWR to judge the contest were Dusen Dusen, Ghetto Gastro, Mold, Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, Rockwell Group, Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Savvy Studio, and Various Projects . Winners were named for the categories of Most Original, Best Likeness, and Pommery Prize.
At the end of the evening, both winners and runners-up were announced to the crowd.
Best Likeness: Jung Soo Park, Eames Elephant by Charles and Ray Eames
Most Original: Mark McPhee, OL’CHAMP-agne Chair
Pommery Prize: Melissa Mohring, Well Tempered Chair by Ron Arad
