Richard Carlson: 1989 Hall of Fame Inductee
Richard A. Carlson is Principal-in-Charge of Interior Design at
Swanke Hayden Connell
. A Fellow of the Institute of Business Designers (IBD), he served two terms as President of the New York Chapter. Mr. Carlson joined SHCA in 1968 and became a principal in 1979. Mr. Carlson received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Pratt Institute and went on to post-graduate studies in architecture and interiors at Lincoln College at Oxford University in England. He is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects.
Mr. Carlson’s expertise in designing corporate facilities has come from years of experience. He has directed the design of such projects including the American Express Company, IBM, Dow Jones & Company, Prudential-Bache Securities, and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee. He has also supervised design work for the law offices of Coudert Brothers, Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy, Fried, Frank, Harris and Shriver et al, and Chadbourne Park and others in New York, and Steel Hector & Davis in West Palm Beach, Florida. Richard Carlson received the Ron Wallin Distinguished Merit Award from IDB.
