Ruben Toledo Takes Miami With Cheeky Illustrations
He was born in Havana, lives in New York, but, lately, Ruben Toledo has been infiltrating the Magic City. First, developer Terra Group commissioned his cheeky, sunny illustrations for the branding surrounding the launch of Jean-Georges Miami Tropic Residences, a 49-story tower by Arquitectonica and Yabu Pushelberg scheduled for 2028 completion. Then, for art and design week earlier last month, his surrealist style made a splash at Ralph Pucci Miami. Outside the gallery through next year, his I See You–I Love You mural spans the entire 14-by-146-foot facade. Inside are six watercolors from his Natural Selections series, including the 40-inch-square As Above So Below. All are inspired by his late wife, fashion designer Isabel Toledo, with a portion of proceeds from the latter helping to fund Izzy, a documentary about the Cuban couple due out late 2026.
