Stephen Burks’s New Handwoven Lamps for Dedon
The dialogue on global diversity continues with the Others, Stephen Burks’s collection of outdoor lighting for Dedon. “We all came from someplace else once. There was a time that we were the other,” Burks says. “So I imagined a colorful community of dreamers.”
His vision materialized in a trio of lanterns made by handweaving proprietary synthetic fibers onto powder-coated aluminum frames—an artisanal approach in keeping with his embrace of Africa. Snapped on to the exterior, handmade acrylic “eyes” reinforce the anthropomorphism. Inside are LEDs powered by solar panels on top. Place a single lantern on an optional marble base, hang one from the ceiling, or stack multiples like a totem. Three color combinations available.
