Thierry W. Despont: 1992 Hall of Fame Member

Mr. Thierry Despont

is an architect, designer and artist with his offices and studio in New York, who specializes in unique and high end designed residential projects, hotels and museums, and historical renovations.


Born and raised in France, Mr.Despont is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts of Paris and holds a degree of Master of City Planning in Urban Design from Harvard University. He is a member of the French Order of Registered Architects and a charter member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.


Established in 1980, The Office of Thierry W Despont, Ltd. has acquired an outstanding reputation as a foremost residential and hospitality design firm with an elite clientele in both North America and Europe.


Mr. Despont was Associate Architect for the Centennial Restoration of the Statue of Liberty and has completed the restoration of Clayton, the Frick family mansion in Pittsburgh. Mr. Despont designed the Decorative Arts Galleries of the new J. Paul Getty Museum and, in collaboration with Richard Meier, was responsible for the interior design of the museum’s sculpture and painting galleries. The office also completed the 50,000 square foot flagship store on Bond Street for Ralph Lauren. In the US, the firm designed the Edmond J. Safra Synagogue on East 63rd Street in New York and the flagship store for Harry Winston in Beverly Hills, California.

Mr.Despont and his office have completed several very high end hotel projects. Among them are the renovation of the Carlyle Hotel in New York, Claridge’s and The Dorchester in London, and the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Florida. Current hotel projects include the renovation of the Ritz Paris, the Dorchester Collection’s new 45 Park Lane Hotel in London, The Chatwal in New York, and the Divan Hotel in Istanbul.


Mr.Despont is a Knight of the French Legion of Honor and a Knight of the Arts and Letters as well as a member of the Interior Design Hall of Fame. He is author of his series of books
